Here you can find answers to our most commonly asked questions. If you have any further questions or can’t find the answer you’re looking for, please contact us and we’ll make sure you get the information you need to make a confident decision about your dental health!

What is an apicoectomy?

An apicoectomy is a minor surgical procedure that removes the tip (apex) of a tooth’s root, along with any infected tissue, to treat persistent infection after a root canal.

Is an apicoectomy painful?

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, so you won’t feel pain during it. Mild discomfort and swelling afterward are common but usually manageable with over-the-counter pain medication.

How long is the recovery after an apicoectomy?

Most patients recover within a few days to a week. You may be advised to avoid hard or chewy foods and strenuous activity during this time to promote healing.
